Warm-up

Begin by finding a comfortable seat, then transition to gentle movements that prepare the body for deeper stretches. The goal is to bring awareness to your breath and body.

Workout

The main block focuses on a flowing sequence that gradually increases hamstring and posterior chain engagement. Listen to your body and adjust as needed. The emphasis is on sensation, not on achieving a perfect shape.

Cool-down

Deep relaxation and gentle stretches to help the body integrate the work done and promote recovery.

Coaching notes

  • Breath is your guide: Use your inhale to lengthen and create space, and your exhale to soften and deepen into the pose. Never hold your breath.
  • Modify as needed: It's okay to bend your knees in forward folds. This protects your lower back and allows for a more effective hamstring stretch. Place hands on shins or blocks if the floor is too far.
  • Engage your core: Even in static stretches, drawing your navel towards your spine helps support your lower back.
  • Listen to your body: Yoga is not about pushing through pain. If you feel any sharp or pinching sensation, ease off immediately.

Scale it

  • Easier: Keep a generous bend in your knees for all forward folds. Use a towel or band around your feet for seated forward folds if your hands don't comfortably reach. Shorten the duration of holds.
  • Harder: Focus on lengthening through the spine before deepening into stretches. Aim to straighten legs more in forward folds while maintaining a flat back. Hold poses for an additional 10-15 seconds if it feels comfortable and beneficial.
